Philippine Equities Witness Significant Swings as Small-Caps Rally, Key Conglomerates Retreat

Trading activity on August 19, 2026, saw a dynamic session for Philippine stocks, with a mix of sharp gains among smaller, speculative issues and notable declines for some established players. While certain sectors like real estate and mining saw robust upward momentum from individual counters, larger holding firms experienced a reversal.

Top Performers for the Day

Leading the surge was Philippine Realty and Holdings Corporation (RLT), which closed at P0.100, marking a P0.017 increase for a significant 20.48% rise. The stock traded 2,700,000 shares, valuing P276,440.00. Following closely was F&J Prince Holdings Corporation "A" (FJP), jumping P0.48 to P2.890, a 19.92% gain on a volume of 30,000 shares worth P86,370.00.

Nihao Mineral Resources International, Inc. (NI) also posted a strong showing, up P0.055 (14.86%) to finish at P0.425, with 1,500,000 shares changing hands for a total value of P617,100.00. LMG Corp. (LMG) gained P0.03 (12.00%) to P0.280, albeit on light trading of 10,000 shares valued at P2,800.00. Similarly, Atok-Big Wedge Co., Inc. (AB) climbed P0.21 (11.67%) to P2.010, with a modest volume of 2,000 shares generating P4,050.00 in value.

National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (NRCP) saw its share price appreciate by P0.11 (11.34%) to P1.080, trading 3,685,000 shares for a total value of P4,107,720.00. Meanwhile, integrated resort operator Bloomberry Resorts Corporation (BLOOM) enjoyed an 8.82% uptick, adding P0.21 to close at P2.590. This surge, translating to a substantial P127.61 million in total value from 51,003,000 shares, reflects continued optimism around the recovery of the tourism and gaming sectors, with analysts often pointing to strong performance from its Solaire Resort and Casino.

Other notable gainers included Raslag Corp. (ASLAG), up P0.09 (8.74%) to P1.120 with P2.51 million in value; Oriental Petroleum and Minerals Corporation "A" (OPM), rising P0.001 (7.69%) to P0.014; and Everwoods Green Resources and Holdings, Inc. (EGRN), which closed P0.002 higher (7.41%) at P0.029.

Key Declines Across the Board

On the downside, Jackstones, Inc. (JAS) experienced the steepest decline, shedding P0.31 or 15.05% to settle at P1.750, with a minimal volume of 3,000 shares. LFM Properties Corporation (LPC) followed, down P0.003 (12.50%) to P0.021, on 200,000 shares valued at P4,100.00.

Primex Corporation (PRMX) saw its shares decrease by P0.10 (9.17%) to P0.990, trading 32,000 shares for P31,090.00. First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH), a major conglomerate with interests spanning energy, real estate, and infrastructure, dipped P8.70 or 7.57% to P106.300. This drop represents a significant P33.19 million in total value, reflecting potential profit-taking or broader market sentiment impacting large-cap holding companies.

Roxas and Company, Inc. (RCI) recorded a decrease of P0.19 (7.12%) to P2.480, while Ferronoux Holdings, Inc. (FERRO) lost P0.26 (6.39%) to close at P3.810. Crown Asia Chemicals Corporation (CROWN) also saw a downturn, declining P0.11 (5.67%) to P1.830 with a total value of P1.04 million.

Apex Mining Co., Inc. (APX) was down P0.80 (5.31%) to P14.260. The P73.70 million worth of shares traded suggests considerable selling pressure, possibly influenced by fluctuations in global commodity prices or specific operational news. Rounding out the top losers were Zeus Holdings, Inc. (ZHI), falling P0.004 (5.26%) to P0.072, and Concepcion Industrial Corporation (CIC), which declined P0.58 (5.14%) to P10.700 on P3.23 million in trades.
